M friend does yoga and it has done wonders for her. I tried it however and due to recurring lower back problems it was not a good match for me. In theory there are instructors that can aork around this but I would rather just stick to the gym.

I have done pilates at home. Good stretch, core strengthening.

  1. Yoga is excellent for many things including breathing, posture and relaxation. Depending on the type of yoga you do some will require more physical strength (i.e. Ashtanga). However, you are better off doing a combination of exercises to improve overall health, for instance, weights for toning and CV exercises for stamina. I have tried pilates but I do not prefer it over yoga as they are similar yet different and as the saying goes, variety is the spice of life!

  2. In my experience yoga is more strenuous but that may be the particular instructors and not the forms.
There is power yoga which is yoga done at a aerobic pace. It is VERY strenuous but loses yoga’s spiritual dimension

  3. No, yoga and pilates are totally gay. Weight lifting is the best exercise.

ANY activity can be done “spiritually.” Yoga is a scam.

  4. I’ve done both and have continued yoga in my fitness program. I prefer yoga because it is total body. Pilates focuses very well on strengthening the central core. I would recommend Pilates to someone with back problems.

    Aloha
