A chair is nothing like a pilates chair, pilates chairs dont even LOOK like chairs. So I would say yes if it calls for a pilates chair – then you need one, you can’t use a normal chair. I suggest looking on craigslist, in the newspaper, thrift stores, etc for a much cheaper one though!
