Yoga is the oldest and most effective system of promoting flexibility of body and mind. Since the two are intimately connected, it is necessary to work on both at the same time. Hatha yoga is the yoga that focuses most on the body, but it too is related to flexibility of mind,

For the best way to begin yoga that I”ve seen, that involves no expense, click on the first link in the source box. Yogaforbeginners.com will explain how to do many asanas–positions–without having to spend money on a class or tapes. If you decide to take a class after you have tried some of this on your own, that will speed up the process, but if you are diligent and self-aware, it doesn’t matter.

Another great method of promoting flexibility is Pilates, which Joseph Pilates invented about a century ago. It is a little more active than hatha yoga, but Pilates and yoga are cut from the same mold. Click on the second link below for more information regarding Pilates.

Since you haven’t mentioned which parts of your body are most inflexible, it is hard to recommend any specific positions or exercises here. However, I would start with the resources below to find specific exercises for specific parts of your body.

The main principle of improving flexiblity is to stretch the muscle to its maximum point up to the point of pain and hold it for about fifteen to thirty seconds. As Kahil Gibran said, “Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.”

All my best to you in achieving a more flexible body.

How can I become more flexible?

Question by Anonymous-MD: How can I become more flexible?
I am not flexible at all. I need to be flexible in gymnastics especially. I also need my muscles to be flexible. Do you have any tips or suggestions to become more flexible?

I am a 13 year old male by the way.

Hmm…

Well, I did dancing back in the days of when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, and I am naturally flexible; even now, four years with no dancing or yoga to aid me, I am quite flexible.

I would recommend daily yoga if you can fit it in your what I would assume, tight schedule, perhaps 30 mins or so every now and then. (Daily).

Daily stretching is vital. Certain stretches, for example, simple floor exercises (e.g. splits) are useful. But don’t go straight into that. Start off easy, and as the seconds tick by, deep breathing, and then stretch out a little further than you did earlier; trust me, it works.

Maybe you should use a Thera-Band? Or go learn some dancing.

🙂

Good luck, you’ll be fine!

Q&A: What is the hardest workout program you can suggest (without going to the gym more than once a week) ?

Question by stbenn22: What is the hardest workout program you can suggest (without going to the gym more than once a week) ?
I need something effective and on the insane side of challenging. I don’t have access to any weird or special equipment (yoga balls, climbing ropes or gear, parachutes, etc…), so that stuff is out of the question. I need a workout program that will incorporate as many elements of physical fitness as possible (strength, endurance, speed, pain tolerance, stretching, nutrition, and long lasting fitnes). Your suggestions are appreciated.

You should seriously consider Pilates. Pilates is a totaly body fitness system developed by Joseph Pilates decades ago. The system focuses on complete strength using your own body as resistence as well as flexibility and health.

Pilates has enjoyed a resurging popularity recently as dancers and other performers have found it to be effective and fast. Once it took hold it found it’s way into classes in gyms all over the world.

There are devices used in some pilates classes but none of these are necessary. If you pick up some literature on the exercises taught by the creator and do them faithfully every day you will not even recognize your body in 3 months.
